The Chester Yellow Jacket boys' basketball season came to an abrupt end Monday night in the quarterfinal round of the Pinckneyville Class 2A Boys Basketball Regional.
Playing Nashville for the first time since leaving the River to River's Mississippi Division, the Yellow Jackets fell to the Hornets 66-49. Chester finishes their first season under Coach Brad Norman with a respectable record of 14-14. The 14 wins are the most for the Yellow Jackets program since the 1997-98 season. The Yellow Jackets fell behind early and found themselves down 37-18 at halftime. Chester trailed 53-34 heading to the fourth quarter and managed to trim Nashville's lead down to nine points but couldn't overcome the huge third quarter deficit. Kyle Landon led Chester with 21 points. It was the final game for seniors Greg Rowold and Matt Heberlie. Heberlie, however, will return to the regional tournament as he advanced in the Country Financial 3-Point Showdown before the start of the Nashville-Chester game on Monday. |
